In the purist sense of the word, an aesthetician (or esthetician) can be defined as anyone who studies and defines sensory values for the culture-at-large. In other words, it is someone who studies and becomes an expert in the things we find pleasing, especially to the eye. Of course, in more common terms, an aesthetician is somebody who studies how to make women more beautiful through treatments to her skin, makeup, and hair. These individuals are experts at applying methods and techniques ranging from dermatology to make-up and hair care.

If you are interested in becoming an aesthetician, it is important to note that you must start by getting yourself the right education; you must study under experts who have been trained in the world’s best aesthetics schools.

In addition, be sure to opt for coursework that feeds your soul. In other words, there are many different areas of focus in this field. Be sure to home in on the one or two areas of specialization that most interest you.

Note, too, that an aesthetician must be flexible in order to remain constantly aware of changing trends. Knowing what the consumer is interested in is extremely important for a successful worker in this field. Incorporating new ideas with the ones you already know will also testify to your knowledge and could allow you to participate in the creation of new fashion trends.

How Much Does An Aesthetician Make?

To consider this as a viable career path, you will do well to educate yourself about how much money an aesthetician can make each year. There is a range, of course, based upon factors such as:

* where you live

* how well-educated you are

* how many years’ worth of experience you have in the field

* the particular salon or company you work for

Beginning salaries in this field are usually in the $15-$20 per hour range. You can end up making $35-$40 per hour or more, however, after you get some experience under your belt. And, salon managers can even top this salary level.

Remember, too, that tips can improve the amount you can earn. Tips usually comprise about 20% of the total service value. Note that a new aesthetician could presumably be making a decent wage almost immediately after getting the proper schooling and finding work. A successful professional esthetician could end up making between $60K – $100K a year, including tips.
