Are you currently taking a foreign language class in college? If you aren’t yet you most likely will need to take a few foreign language classes to get your major in college. There are many general education classes that are needed when in college, and foreign language is one of them. Foreign languages can be very difficult for some people to learn. When in college, it is even harder to learn a language because you learn the language at such a fast pace. Read below for some tips on how to pass your college foreign language class.

Professor – Your professors are supposed to be your friends so make sure you can ask them questions. If ever you have a question be sure to always ask until you understand. Whether you ask in class, or after class be sure you find out the answers.

Be there – College is expensive and if you don’t show up you’re going to only be wasting money. You want to make sure you go to every class when you have a foreign language. If you miss one day you will most likely be missing out on a lot. It’s like math you have to learn the basics before you can go any further.

Textbook – Any kind of book in college costs an arm and a leg these days so you want to make sure you read it. Go through the textbook and go page by page and chapter by chapter. If you keep up with reading the textbook you will go much further than you think.

Sounds – You want to make sure you get a feel for the sounds. When learning a foreign language we often get confused at first with the different sounds. Try to pick them up and speak with the accents. It will take some time but it will flow much nicer and make you feel a whole lot better.

Verbs – To create good sentences in a foreign language you need to make yourself aware of a lot of verbs. Take a few days a week and just study verbs for 20 minutes each time. The more verbs you know the better your speaking will get.

Tenses – Be sure that you familiarize all the tenses. You want to make sure you know the past, present and future tense. If you don’t learn these properly your sentences won’t make sense. Once you get the feel for the tenses you will be on a roll.

Conjunctions – Learn all the conjunctions of the foreign language. Be sure you understand the subordinating, coordinating, and verb conjunctions. Once you know these a foreign language will make much more sense to you.

There is a lot to know about learning a foreign language. The most important thing is to have patience, have fun with it and have motivation. Foreign languages can be very frustrating but once you get the gist of it you’ll be glad you took the time to learn it.

Learning a new language as a family can be a wonderful and rewarding thing to do, especially if you have small children at home. For them, learning at smaller ages will be much easier than learning later in life. It will also be more rewarding for you, as a family to be able to have that extra cultural exposure that another language makes available to you. Most children will grow up learning both languages naturally, at the same time if they are used constantly near him. However, if you want to speed up the process or make it more effective, there are several techniques that you can try out.

For example, there are many online programs that can assist you with learning a new language for yourself as well as making the process fun through the use of games for the entire family. In addition to the ability or need to memorize words, you will find that these online programs will actually teach you to analyze and choose the correct words in the first place. This is done through the use of flash cards, matching games, word scrambles, and tons of other games that make the learning process seem much less like learning and much more like fun.

If you are having fun learning something, chances are that your children will wish to learn as well. Keep reminding them how fun it will be to travel to the land of the language and speak like a native or go out to dinner in a new town and pretend to be foreign by only speaking to each other in the language you’ve learned. Not to mention the fun they will have on the school bus when no one else really understands what they are saying.

Raising a bilingual family in today’s world has many benefits that go far beyond knowing a second language. In addition to the languages learned you are increasing their ability to learn more languages, as each subsequent language is easier to learn. While at a young age, children may have a tendency to mix languages or switch back and forth that is something that will occur less frequently in time.

The process of creating a bilingual household also requires a considerable amount more effort on the part of the parents. Not only are you learning a new language and committing to learning it well enough to teach to your children and speak on a regular basis, but you are also committing your child to another language as well. This can be confusing to him or her at times and overwhelming at others. Be careful that you don’t overload them, which may cause them to stop speaking all together and that you are patient with them offering support and kind words when needed. This is one of the greatest gifts you can give your children and they will understand that in time.

Learning a foreign language can be enjoyable – but exasperating. Anything you can do to accelerate learning or make language acquisition more enjoyable is a valuable weapon in your learning arsenal. Kathy Steinemann shares a helpful and unique approach to this challenge.

Take a look at the following two sections of text:

*Version 1

The sky is blue today. I’m sitting on the beach. A bully kicks sand in my face. Too bad for him! Here come my bodyguards!

*Version 2

One, two, a sky so blue. Three, four, a sandy shore. Five, six, a bully kicks. Seven, eight, he’s sealed his fate. Nine, ten, here come my gunmen!

Now go back and re-read the verses.

Did you notice that you have already started to anticipate what comes next in the second version?

Conclusion: It is easier to memorize rhyming poetry than to memorize prose.

So what implication does this have for learning a foreign language?

If you memorize well-written *modern* foreign language poetry, you can accelerate your learning curve. (Notice the keyword ‘modern’.)

Poetry written in the 18th Century may have deep cultural and educational significance. However, words penned to page over 300 years ago will utilize obsolete vocabulary, spelling, and grammar formations.

As an example: consider the popular King James Version of the Bible. If you started using ‘thee’ and ‘thou’ in your daily speech, people would understand you – but they would treat you like an alien in a time warp.

You can search the internet for poetry written by contemporary authors. Try searches like:

parallel translation poetry

parallel translation poems

parallel translation poems German English

parallel translation poems French English

parallel translation poetry Italian English

parallel translation poetry Spanish English

Substitute search terms as necessary with the name of the specific language you are studying. Review the webpages you find with a tutor, professor, or knowledgeable person to determine grammar and vocabulary suitability.

Attempt to have the poetry dictated and recorded by a native language speaker. Softly recite the poetry while you listen to the recordings. This will improve your verbalization skills. With luck, you may find online audio for some of the poetry.

Are you a budding poet? Try creating foreign language poems yourself.

No poetic talent? Attempt the following simple approach. If you are learning German, for example, you might produce a ‘poem’ like this:

the dog – der Hund

the mouth – der Mund

the air – die Luft

the scent – der Duft

to buzz – summen

to growl – brummen

little – klein

clean – rein

to brood – grübeln

to iron – bügeln

You don’t have to worry about grammar – just definitions, pronunciations, gender, and spelling. Alcor (alcor.com.au) has several rhyming dictionaries that can assist you with this process.

If you have an audio dictionary on your computer, listen carefully to the pronunciation of each word. There are also excellent online dictionaries with audio.

Now produce your own poetry recording using audio capture software.

- First, dictate each English word or phrase and save as an individual file.

- Next, save foreign language audio clips from your dictionary or from the internet.

- Now load your audio capture software and play the files in the correct order. Try to create short productions of a minute or two in duration.

- Edit if necessary to eliminate excessive pauses or add definite articles.

- Finally, convert to MP3 or WMA. Now you can use your iPod or portable media player for something besides music.

The 21st Century is a wonderful time to be learning a foreign language!

We live in an exciting knowledge-based economy where technology and education have made information more freely available to common folk than ever before. The only problem is: Are we open-minded enough to harness the information made available to help us make educated decisions?

One such piece of free valuable information: 20 years of painstaking research has proven that children who use sign language have enhanced language, mental, social and emotional development, as compared to children who do not.

There is now a growing international movement which teaches babies to “talk” to you even before they can actually talk! Did you know that infants’ gross motor skills (ability to grasp objects at 3-4 months) much develop faster than their fine motor skills (articulation). As such, babies can actually use their hands to “communicate”.

One fundamental reason for using sign language with your child, is not to miss out on positive two-way communication during the periods when babies’ articulators are not fully formed yet.

Laura Dyer, Speech Pathologist, in her book “Look Who’s Talking: How To Enhance Your Child’s Language Development Starting At Birth”, states that typically developing children ages 8 to 22 months benefit from learning sign language because these children can use signs to represent words that are too difficult for them to say.

Recent research has proven that teaching your baby sign language will provide dramatic benefits to both children and parents:

INCREASED IQ

Dr Linda Acredolo and Dr Susan Goodwyn compared babies who used sign with babies who had not. Their research shows that the babies who used sign had a faster rate of cognitive development than babies who didn’t sign.

Later, when the same two groups were compared at two years of age, the signers knew about fifty more spoken words than the other babies who hadn’t learned sign.

At the age of three, the same signing group was found speaking and comprehending words at levels almost compared to what is normally expected at the age of four! They also scored well on tests of memory, mental development and fantasy play.

In fact, a ten-year study at the University of California at Davis found that seven-year-olds who signed as babies scored an average of twelve points higher on the standard IQ test than members of a control group who didn’t sign as babies.

Marilyn Daniels, who has done extensive research on hearing children who have been taught sign language, explains that this is because there is increased neuron connectivity when babies use sign language. As such, there is increased stimulation and brain activity resulting in denser brain development.

INCREASED VOCABULARY

Marilyn also performed studies to determine whether adding sign language to the curriculum in pre-kindergarten classes would improve the students’ comprehension of the English vocabulary. Research concluded that the children who received sign instruction showed significant improvement in English vocabulary for students who received the sign language instruction.

In fact, the National Institute for Child Health & Human Development studied 140 families with eleven-month-old babies for two years. They compared families who used signs with their babies with families who did not. The children in the families that used signs performed better in all tests, scoring higher in intelligence tests, had larger vocabularies and engaged in more sophisticated play.

Sure, learning sign language is going to take effort, especially for hearing adults. However, after enduring nine arduous months of child-bearing, many parents will want to give the finest education to their children.

Teaching your children sign language when they are babies will help to lay a good foundation to their success in future.

Learning a language effectively and well is a target for many people. With the new global economy it seems that knowing more than one language is a massive advantage when it comes to searching for jobs. However, many people perceive learning a language as being very difficult and time consuming and therefore don’t even begin to start. This is not necessary since there are many easy ways to learn a language. Here let’s have a look at the three easiest ways to learn a language: ( Please bear in mind that not all of these may be practical for all people!)

#1 Easiest Way To Learn A Language

Having parents that have different native languages. This is the most effective way to learn a language as the child will grow up and become perfectly fluent in both of the languages. If one parent is Spanish and the other English then there should be no problem for the child to become perfectly fluent in both of these languages. The important point to remember is that both parents must use their own native language when talking with the child. This truly is the easiest way to learn a language as it requires no effort.

#2 Easiest Way To Learn A Language

This is to move to a country that speaks the language you plan on learning and then spend a prolonged amount of time there. Make sure that you take part in the local culture and get as much speaking practice as you possibly can.

#3 Easiest Way To Learn A Language

This involves finding a girlfriend/boyfriend that speaks the language that you want to learn. It gives you the perfect opportunity to practice and improve and obviously there are some other benefits beyond just that of just learning a language. This is another easy way to learn a language.

Now we have seen that there are some great methods which enable you to learn new languages easily. While these methods are the easiest ways to learn a language they may not be options that are available for you. However, you need not despair. The most important thing is to get started and work at your own pace.

Basically you need to find the quickest way to learn a language for You! Attend some lessons and get some good learning materials and look for every opportunity available. Do this and you really can’t go wrong!

Get Rich Quick Scams Revealed Read this article before you consider paying for a “get rich quick” program. From: learn any language Everybody would love to make lots of money quickly, working from home, and only doing a few hours of work per week. I’ve spent the past two years trying to find a great way of doing this.

Only over the course of the past few months have I found any “get rich quick” programs worth buying. I’ve been trying to make money online for a long time. I had a few small websites, but they never made much more than a few hundred per month. It was easy money and didn’t require much work on my part, but I knew there were people out there doing better than I was and I knew I could do as well as them.

Now, I’ve seen a lot of “get rich quick” programs. Most of these people make claims about earning $2000/day with Goggle or something similarly insane. Almost all of these people are complete liars. Even if they were making $2000/day with Goggle Ad Sense, it’d be because they had high- traffic websites with a lot of quality content.

I’d know, because in one whole month, I never even made half of what they promised I’d make daily with their programs. Maybe you’ve already been scammed by one of these fraudsters. Anyway, I finally got sick of what was being offered. I decided I’d look through the all of the “get rich quick” programs I could find and see if there were any that were actually legitimate.

I found that there were owners selling their programs for well over $100, but the information in them could be found almost anywhere online for free. Additionally, they all contained out-of-date information, had no e-mail support, no money back guarantees, and broken links in the downloads section. In conclusion, almost all of the programs I found were completely useless.

The owners knew it, but they couldn’t care less about their customers since they didn’t offer refund policies! Amazingly, while looking through all of the programs, I actually did find a few legitimate programs. They were run by ordinary people like you and me, and they had found some great methods of making money from their home by doing very little work.

I spent some time working with those programs, and my income is now ten times what it used to be. These programs provided a large amount of great information on how to make extra money on your computer doing very little work. Numerous customers had provided great feedback and reviews for their products. Many of them have started to make money just days after buying!

Their programs have excellent prices, and the authors have a group of paid staff who are dedicating to helping you or providing assistance if you need any. I must say I was amazed! If you do decide to purchase any of the programs listed below, I recommend you join quickly. Most of the owners tell me they are getting an overwhelming number of sales and plan on raising prices in the near future, so order while prices are still low! To Your Online Success, learn any language

The trend in learning Spanish through other means other than attending language schools is growing. More and more people are coming online to learn Spanish through various online courses. Some are some expensive, while others provide great value at a low price. Learning Spanish online has become the chosen option for a lot of people because it allows one to learn at his/her own pace and in her free time. For some people, this is the most conducive kind of situation for learning.

Do a search for ‘Spanish language course’ on any search engine and you will find dozens of courses promising that you will learn Spanish quickly. How do you choose the right one? First, check the credentials of the course tutor or creator. Is he qualified to teach the language. There are far too many scam artists out there that you can shake a stick at. After that, check how long the course has been around. If it is more established, it is probably more effective. You can also look out for any reviews online for the course and what other people’s opinions.

Contrary to what most language experts advise, it is best not to try to make too many mistakes when you are learning a new language. Making some mistakes is fine, but make too many and your confidence in learning the new language may be shot. If you make less mistakes in the beginning, you will become more and more confident as you progress deeper in the language.

It also key to master the fundamentals in the beginning. This is your foundation on which your new language will be built on! Once you are a master of the fundamentals, you will become fluent in the language, rather than just proficient.

I hope you have gained a few valuable tips on how to learn Spanish. I wish you all the best in your endeavors to master Spanish!

Due to time constraints, the best time to learn a new language varies for different people. Some may find more free time after they are retired, or some want to learn a new language early in their career to gain better prospects. However, it is possible to come to some conclusions on when is the best time to learn a new language for most people.

As a rule, it is better to learn a second language when you are younger. Obviously, your ability to retain learned material is better, and not only that, you are able to learn at a faster speed. If you are surrounded by native speakers, you will naturally pick up the language quickly and find it easier to grasp it rather in a constrained classroom setting, for example.

It has been proven that a child who learns many languages when he is young will also be able to pick up new languages at a faster rate when he grows older. This is because his mind is trained well linguistically from a young age. It becomes more flexible as he or she learns more.

If you are an adult an about to migrate to a foreign country, for example, then that is the best time to start learning a new language, the language of the country you are going to. You will become confident in your ability to speak the language once you enter the country.

Do consider what your goals for your new language learning, and strive to achieve it! It’s a whole world out there in languages.

One of the easiest ways nowadays to get access to a foreign language is through TV. There is a multitude of satellite channels available in a large number of languages.

So is it a good idea? It can certainly help. One of the positives of course is that you can get to hear the language spoken very naturally. You can hear inflexions, accents and the sounds. What is even better is that it is usually a standard version of the language. What’s more news stories tend to quite short and usually we can find the same type of stories in our own language, especially international stories.

The trouble of course is that if you are a beginner it is really hard work. In fact for elementary or less-advanced learners it can be very tiring trying to listen to a language they are learning. Subtitles of course can give us a support to help us more clearly identify what is being said. Unfortunately with TV subtitles don’t always match exactly what the speaker says.

But even subtitles are not such a bad thing. We still benefit from listening to the sounds even when we are reading the subtitles. Think of how people who are not native speaker speak your native tongue. It usually reflects their own language and ways of saying things. By exposing our ears to the rhythm and sounds of the new language we still get some benefit.

So what can we do? Here are some thoughts

    * Start with news programmes.
* Use subtitles when you watch.
* Record the news and watch replay of the stories. International stories tend to be better for this.
* Read the same in your own language.
* Pick some words out of what you have heard and find out what they mean.

Language learning takes a lot of time. Sometimes for every step forward we jump back a step or two as we learn new things. Either way anything we can do to help ourselves can only be good. So be patient and enjoy.

The connection between computers and language is nothing new. We started seeing it in popular culture back in the 60’s with Star Trek’s communicators. The idea of a universal instant translator of any language into any other language is an extremely appealing problem to techno-linguists. We’re still nowhere near to achieving that dream despite great strides that have been made with automatic translation services online.

There is no fear of losing the language classroom any time soon. More than any time in the last 100 years, students are flocking to ESL and EFL classrooms around the world. And more than ever, technology is becoming a core part of these classrooms. We are now entering a time when both students and teachers are ‘tech savvy’ and computers and related technologies have been part of their daily life from the start.

They have a familiarity and comfort level with technology that people born say before 1980 or so just don’t have. As language students’ lives become increasingly computer based, the importance of integrating computers with language learning is growing. Not only do students expect it, but it is also how many are most comfortable learning (for better or worse).

Sadly, and maybe this is only for those of us who are slightly older, the growing dependence on technology has resulted in a disturbing lack of familiarity and comfort with traditional information sources – like books, libraries, and frighteningly person-to-person communication.

So what should language teachers do? Should you integrate computers into your language classes and lessons? Well that will always depend on what you are trying to accomplish and why. By no means do you need to go 100% digital – however to completely ignore the importance of technology in language learning would be a major mistake in my estimation.

I know what I do in the classes I teach. I make use of computers in my classes when I see an overall benefit, and I don’t when I can’t see the benefit. What will you do? Well, that depends on you and your personal inclinations.

For now, keep in mind that while CALL, or computer assisted language learning, has come a long way in the last 15 years or so, the word ‘assisted’ is, and I think should always remain, central in the relationship between computers and language learning.
