For Finding a New Job Tips
1. The CV is what will get you in the door for a job interview. Make certain this is as well written as possible. Your qualifications, job experience and results are what the employer will be looking at when making the decision of who to interview for this opening.
2. Check out the company where you are interested in applying for a job. Find out everything you can about them, so you can hold an intelligent conversation about this company.
3. When dropping off or sending your CV to a prospective employer, make sure they did receive it. This could be the perfect opportunity to set up an interview for the position. Calling to ensure the CV was received can never hurt.
4. If you get an interview be prepared. An opening line an interviewer may use is ‘tell me about yourself.’ This does not mean they want to know everything about you from where you were born to what size shoes you wear. They are interested in you as far as what experience you have for the position they have open.
5. Pay attention to the way you present yourself in an interview. Practice with someone if need be before going to the actual interview. Pay attention to your body language. Sit up straight and do not lounge in the chair. Make eye contact and answer questions in a straightforward manner.
6. Choose the appropriate dress. Do not come off as too flashy and flamboyant. Wear something business-like and conservative. Dressing for an interview does not have to be formal and stuffy, but it should not include casual wear either.
7. You can ask questions during the interview as well. What exactly the company is looking for is one question that will tell you right away if you are interested in this position. Remember, you are being interviewed, but you are also interviewing the prospective employer. This position is not right for you if you are not going to like the job duties.
8. Often a temporary job will lead to full time employment. Find a temporary position in the field of work you enjoy and see how this works out. This allows you to try out the type of work you think you would like to do and the employer can see what a marvellous job you are doing.
9. By talking to friends and relatives you may hear of an opening in your line of work. Usually people that work for a company know there will be an opening before it is ever posted.
10. Do not get discouraged if you are not working within a couple of months. Many employers advertise a job opening in advance and this allows them plenty of time to interview several people before making a choice.
Finding a new job does not have to be complicated. By following a few tips, you can end up with the job you have always wanted.
