Ever since I got my Bachelor’s Degree, I found it virtually impossible to get entry level jobs. For example, screeners for grocery stores, fast food establishments, and companies that tend to have plentiful job openings all told me that I was “overqualified”. How can you be overqualified to bag customer purchases and stock shelves? Unfortunately, if you have a bachelor’s degree that doesn’t offer a lot of job opportunities without continuing further, you may find yourself having to build a career without relying on your degree to help you command a higher salary. This, in turn, creates a position where your employment options are not much better than those of a high school dropout.

What Jobs Are the Best?

Retail: One of the best part time jobs for 16 year olds is that of working in a retail store. Unfortunately, you may run into some complications along the way. Some retailers or even state laws prefer that children be a certain age to use machinery, such as a forklift for unloading trucks. In addition, some retailers prefer that teenagers be at least 18 years of age before working a cash register (due to the money). With that said, not all retailers have these limits. Moreover, there are plenty of other positions available, such as customer service, stocking, sales floor workers, and so forth.
