One thing people need to keep in mind from the very start is that even though the State may not require you to get training, your employer may. In fact, if you do not have an employer already, one benefit of getting the training is that it can help increase the odds that you will find an employer or a better one. The reason is that this training separates you from other applicants and can help you become aware of employers who value this training. Of course, if you do have an employer already, one major benefit of this training is that it is often paid for by the company. But this still begs the question how valuable his is the training.

All official job forecasts for the immediate future indicate that a 10% unemployment rate will be with us for quite a while. There are simply not as many jobs in the U.S. as there used to be. While we can argue about why that is, it doesn’t help the over 40 person who’s looking for employment right now.

When the economic tsunami swept through the economy in 2009, and by logical extension, through the job market, the “rules” of the “hiring game” changed, arguably for the foreseeable future. One of these NEW rules is this: relying exclusively, or even nearly exclusively, upon the Internet job boards to find your next job is a bad bet! Out of 100 résumés sent to a job posted on the Internet today, only one to two percent of them receive any kind of response, good, bad or indifferent!
