1. Be prepared with some answers in mind. Review possible interview questions so that you can take time to prepare answers ahead of time. Don’t let your answers sound like they are recited, but instead you should have ideas in your head about what kind of information you would like to get across in the interview. Then use that information to form the answers to the questions that you are asked.

2. Pause before answering each question. Don’t feel rushed to immediately start talking as soon as the interviewer ends the question, it is ok to take 3 to 5 seconds to catch your breath and think about your answer.

3. Speak slowly. It is easy to feel rushed and talk too quickly in an interview, but remember that you have time. Slow down and give the interviewer time to understand what you are saying. Your answers should be spoken in the speed of a regular conversation.

4. Be prepared with a few work-related stories. Answers that include stories or examples are always great to show how you can demonstrate the skills needed for the job. Think of a few short stories ahead of time that you can integrate into your interview. Make sure that the stories are short and to the point though, don’t ramble!

5. Dress the part. You should never show up to an interview dressed in scroungy clothing. It is always better to overdress, so you should err on the side of being too dressed up rather than not enough.

6. Learn the business jargon to fit in. Study the business jargon ahead of time so that you are comfortable talking about the topic during the interview. Also, know some basic facts about the company so that you can show that you are familiar with the business.
